Wear your seat belt

This sign was seen at the Hunter Valley region North of Sydney. Some people have a great sense of humor and know how to use it to make a point. And just in case you are wondering, I checked about the 1000MPH spin rate for the Earth and it is correct if measured at the equator (source.)

Not calling shenanigans on it or anything, but why would an australian sign be in miles per hour? We do, and have done for some time now, kilometer per hour down here..

Maybe because 1000mph is easier to put on a sign than 1609.344kph. Nice, round number. Probably as simple as that. I would like to thank google calculator for providing me with the proper level of condescension for this comment.
