Unfortunate hotel name: il bordello
Posted on April 11th, 2009 at 8:19 pm by Aussie

You’d think that the owners of this hotel in Malta would have thought to check the name to make sure that it doesn’t give people the wrong impression. Then again, where is the fun in that?

I don’t see any chains on the gate, so maybe they’re still in the clear.

Perhaps it’s intentional. Being that close to Italy I’d guess the owners are aware of its Italian translation for “Il Bordello” as “the brothel” or maybe a brothel takes on a whole another meaning in Maltese, one that has less social taboo. If not, my guess is the sign makers certainlly didn’t question anything.

Maybe it is meant to be as in “au bord de l’ eau” which means by the side of the water. Is this restaurant close to water maybe????
